Special Case – Record Work Done, Not Hours Worked

Timesheets.com was designed to track time but it can also record jobs as an instance of work done, ignoring the hours and minutes all together.

For some businesses this is important because not every company, team, or freelancer needs to track the time they spend on projects. Sometimes, just tracking the project itself is all that is needed for billing.

In many industries labor is not billed by the hour but rather by the job or contract based on some fixed price quote. While charging by the hour is usually the most accurate way to bill a fair price, it isn’t standard in all industries.

If this is your situation and you need a place to record the various jobs done for a client, our Timeclock software is a great solution. Employees can still track their time on the clock and then record the jobs they work on for clients.

How To Record Jobs

The method for tracking jobs isn’t much different from tracking time on projects.

Projects will first need to be set up, assigning which employees have access to them and which customers are linked to them. Then, on the manual entry page, the job will be entered by using a 1 in the hours field. The 1 just acts as a placeholder to record that the job was done.

With the jobs recorded this way, project reports will show totals of how many times employees have done a particular job.

Reports in our system will show the totals in the “hours” column. To customize this report simply download it as a CSV file, then, in Excel Spreadsheets, change the column heading to “jobs” or some other appropriate heading.
