There are a lot of minimum wage changes this year in the nation’s states. The rates are to take effect on January 1st, 2018 but some, like New York, may take effect December 31st, 2017.

States Following the Federal Rate

While compiling this table I found it interesting that some of the states which are not on this list strictly follow the federal minimum wage. The federal minimum wage is currently set to $7.25 per hour and hasn’t changed since 2009. Those states whose rates are the same as the federal rate include:

Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

In some of these states there are cities with higher rates. However, not all states even allow cities to adjust the state minimum wage rate. Some states put a ban on city rate increases.

City/County Minimum Wage Rate Changes

There are also a considerable number of cities with minimum wage rate changes. If you live in any of the following states, check with your city and county:

Arizona, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Washington.
