The days of using paper for record keeping are quickly coming to an end. For nearly any task you can think of, there is an Android or iPHone app to make the job easier. And of course there are also apps for tracking mileage.
To calculate reimbursement for mileage, try our free calculator.
There are some easy apps available to help employees keep track of odometer readings for their mileage records. This is great news because employees have to track their mileage if they are reimbursed by their employers for mileage or if they plan to claim tax deductions for the use of their vehicle for business purposes.
In order to get reimbursed by the IRS for mileage that was not reimbursed by your employer, you need to track mileage. The IRS doesn’t mind if you write down your odometer readings or let an app do the work for you, but if you choose to do the job manually, you have to do some minor calculations to figure out the mileage. To make the process quicker, you can have the app do it for you.
These apps can track your mileage based on the speed the vehicle is going, via geolocation, by measuring the distance you travel as you drive, or by calculations based on you odometer entries. Either way, you’re just getting the number of miles you drive on work related trips for tax purposes.

There are many more options if you don’t mind paying a few bucks. Check out this list for iPhone mileage apps.
Android Apps
Free apps:
- TripLog – This is the same app as above but for Android.
- My Car Tracks – This app will track your trips automatically without having to click start and stop. It also manages fleets and location of vehicles.

In the past i have used tripcubby and triplog but I will have to agree with Mike on this, I have been using Vezma for 6 months now and have been a happy customer ever since. I love how flexible the application is, to use on my blackberry as well as a Nokia Lumia 630 (windows phone) that i use. Their premium plans are quite light on my pocket too ;). You can probably check out their website http://www.vezma.com to know more about the schemes they are offering.
Also, could you please review the top ten best business applications when you have the time? thanks.
Thank you for your input! I would be happy to write a to ten business applications post. Although, I have to say, the best business applications for any business does vary quite a bit depending on the type of business. But I’ll try to come up with something most businesses can find useful.
TrackMyDrive is another app for tracking your business mileage automatically. I am the developer of the app so let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for adding your app! For anyone interested, here is the website with the TrackMyDrive app: https://trackmydrive.com/
Feel free to point out anything about your app that makes it unique. One thing I already learned on your blog is that you provide excellent customer service!
We use EverTrack app from http://corvusgps.com. Great GPS tracker app with useful features.
I absolutely love brand new mileage tracker – http://milecatcher.com
That one can do all types of tracking & logging mileage. Free and unlimited trip log. My cousin deduct rate on Toyota Auris is 20% comparing with last month.
Having a mileage tracker app is very helpful and it lessens the pain of writing your logs on paper and it will make sure that all the information you need will be noted. I’ve been using MileGo tracking app and it really helps me a lot.
